![]() ![]() ![]() If done correctly - meaning comprehensively and holistically - either cost-socialization ideology can work. This article is not about the pros and cons of formal socialization however, you can’t pretend the social cost doesn’t exist like today’s leaders. There’s nothing wrong with not wanting to formally socialize costs. This is what our cities look like when we choose the product with the lowest extraction and point-of-sale costs, without considering all the lifecycle costs. This is what our cities look like when we choose cheap products with high social costs but have governments who are reluctant to formally socialize anything. ![]() It’s cheap when all the pieces are interchangeable. ![]() A leading cause of this urban form is the manufacturing of “ place.” You can copy and paste this simple urban model in any city, or so the theory goes. Adobe LiveCycle Designer: Creating Dynamic PDF and HTML5 Forms for Desktop and Mobile Applications shows design strategies as well as the technical underpinnings of PDF and XFA (Adobe XML Forms Architecture), the tools necessary to create intelligent forms. When you look around in your city, do you ever feel like we’ve got an epidemic of cheapness? Our strip-malls and parking lots, our asphalt jungles and assembly-line homes, the same pattern of “restaurants” selling food-like substances repeat every 30 blocks as do the fast-fashion retailers… It seems most new cities - like those in North America - are 80% cheap, unremarkable, tedious, repetitive, inefficient, and temporary land-use while the other 20% is desirable and focused on quality. The new version of LiveCycle Designer (ES4) allows for the first time forms to be deployed in HTML5 format, so they can be used on a wider array of devices (page sizes can adjust to smaller screens) and in a wider range of software systems (no special reader or plugin needed to use them, just a Web browser). Forms created with LiveCycle Designer automatically expand to accommodate different amounts of data and report that information back to a database. LiveCycle Designer lets form designers create more compelling and dynamic documents than is possible with Acrobat or Microsoft Word. It offers a digital handshake between the graphic designer and the data programmer. As shown in this book, LiveCycle Designer addresses the many objectives of forms creation. Plus, forms need to be designed well to eliminate confusion and entice completion by the user. Dynamic forms also have to work seamlessly with the database that collects customer information. Interactive forms that respond to data entry by the user require some programming. Forms have to present critical information in a compact format.
